Through press conferences, town halls, and other community engagement initiatives, we aim to raise awareness, influence public policy, and mobilize support for African refugees across Canad

Our advocacy efforts target government officials, media, and the broader public to drive systemic change—centering the voices and leadership of community agencies most directly impacted by these issues.
In collaboration with our members and partners, we are developing community hubs that serve as one-stop centers for African refugees. These hubs provide holistic, culturally competent wraparound services, including:
✔ Mental health support
✔ Employment assistance and job training
✔ Legal aid and immigration services
✔ Social integration programs.
***
By centralizing access to these critical supports, the hubs will empower refugees to navigate their new lives with dignity, stability, and a strong sense of belonging.
One of the biggest challenges for newcomers is accessing culturally familiar foods that provide both nutritional value and a sense of comfort.
***
To address food insecurity among African refugees, we partner with food banks, community kitchens, and local organizations to ensure consistent access to nutritious, culturally appropriate meals that support health, dignity, and sustainability.
Alongside our work to advance support for African refugees in Canada, we are also focused on strengthening the Governance and Capacity of the African Canadian Collective (ACC). This includes strategic planning for the collective as a whole, as well as initiatives to build the capacity of individual member organizations.
***
The Governance and Capacity Building Committee is leading this effort to ensure a stronger, more cohesive, and sustainable network, ensuring they are equipped to lead and sustain impactful initiatives within the refugee sector across Canada.
